Heishi (pronounced he-she) literally means "shell" and refers to pieces of shell, which have been drilled and ground into beads and then strung into necklaces. Southwestern people living near historic Santa Fe, New Mexico, are generally recognized as the creators of heishi and it is believed to be the oldest form of jewelry in New Mexico. Originally, many different types of shell and stone were used and drilled with a small, hand-pumped drill. The drilled pieces were then rubbed smooth on sandstone and individually strung together. Turquoise is featured in the Waterfall collection and creates the effect of a flowing waterfall.
In addition to shell and stone, the ancient technique of heishi was adapted for sterling silver in a process called liquid silver. Small ribbons of silver are passed through a drawplate, forming a thin, silver tube. These tubes are carefully cut into identical 1/8" pieces and hand strung together in various lengths. A classic, Southwestern jewelry technique, the term liquid silver is derived from the smooth and flowing waterfall effect created by the silver strands.

• Since 100% pure silver is extremely malleable and therefore not conducive for jewelry making, other alloys are added to it to make it more durable and less resistant to damage and scratching. .925 sterling silver jewelry is a combination of 92.5% silver and usually 7.5% copper, although the copper is sometimes replaced with another alloy or a combination of alloys. The hallmark of .925 sterling silver on a piece of jewelry ensures the highest quality of silver.
• People of the Southwest prized blue turquoise, the heart of Southwestern tradition, as currency, as a talisman of good health, and most importantly as beautiful jewelry. Known as the modern birthstone for December, turquoise is often called the "sky stone" by Southwestern people. It's believed to have healing powers, while promoting spiritual attunement and attracting abundance and prosperity. Several Southwestern states celebrate it as their state stone: Arizona, New Mexico, and Nevada.

| Sleek liquid silver, accented with clear blue turquoise, gives the Waterfall collection a sophisticated, tailored look, one of the many trends seen on fashion runways this season. Glistening against the skin, and complementary with any wardrobe color, Waterfall jewelry combines elegant and casual. Gentle streams of silver beads create subtle sparkle and stand out against saturated wardrobe colors. A stunning necklace features a cascade of turquoise heishi beads coming together in a trendy Y-shape, creating a waterfall effect and finished off with sterling raindrop beads. |
| Care Instructions - Like all fine jewelry, CP SIGNATURE™ jewelry should be handled carefully. Store jewelry in a ziploc bag, dry and wrapped in tissue paper, when not being worn or displayed. Clean sterling silver with a silver polishing cloth when necessary, but never immerse in chlorine, silver dips, chemical solutions, or ultrasonic cleaners, as these substances can cause damage to the gemstones. Never wear jewelry in a chlorinated pool or spa. |
