Southwest Spirit™ is a style that is influenced by the natural beauty and vibrant culture of the American Southwest. Playful and light-hearted, this jewelry collection captures a carefree casual character that lets you journey right into the Southwest and seize the day for fun and adventure. Affordable in price, yet timeless in appearance, Southwest Spirit™ rises above the trend, pairing traditional turquoise blues of the sky with fun whimsical elements of the desert. Enjoy the flavor and the flare of the Southwest.
Mosaic Inlay
Also known as chip inlay is a modern adaptation of two earlier techniques - mosaic inlay lapidary and overlay silverwork. Background areas of silver overlay that would remain black in the original overlay method are instead filled with an epoxy and mosaic fragments of turquoise, jet, black onyx, coral and other material.
Channel Inlay
Channel Inlay involves incredible lapidary skills. Genuine stones and shells are cut into precise sizes and shapes in order to fit together in a silver setting like a perfect puzzle. The result is a vibrant geometric pattern.
Liquid Silver
The technique of heishi has been adapted to the use of silver. When silver is used it is produced by drawing small ribbons of silver through a drawplate that forms a thin, silver tube. These tubes are carefully cut into identical 1/8" pieces and hand-strung together. The term "Liquid Silver" is derived from the smooth and flowing watery effect created by the silver strands.
Squash Blossom
Experts seem to agree that the popular "Squash Blossom" necklace is a variant of a class of old and favored Spanish-Mexican ornament which was actually not a squash, but a stylized version of the pomegranate, a shape that the Spanish Conquistadores used as buttons.
Native Pearl
Native Pearls are domed sterling silver beads that have a stamped concha or floral pattern around the top and bottom. These antiqued beads are referred to as "pearls", because of their traditional and classic use in Southwest jewelry and are a must have in today's business casual settings.
Twist Rope Design
The twist rope design recreates the look of double twisted wire, which in the 1920s came into use in Southwestern jewelry. Double twisted wires are two round wires held parallel and then twisted about each other. The twist rope is believed to be the symbol of strength, loyalty and friendship.
